Bitumen 10/20 is a hard grade bitumen with a penetration of 10–20 (0.1 mm at 25 °C). The penetration grade meets EN 13924, with a softening point of 60–76 °C, and is used for high-modulus asphalt. Petroseal also supplies oxidized (blown) 10/20 for industrial use. Both are available across Pakistan and for export from Karachi.

Key features

  • — Penetration grade and oxidized (blown) 10/20 available
  • — Certificate of Analysis with every batch
  • — Steel drums or bulk — local delivery and export

Applications

  • — High-modulus asphalt base courses (penetration grade)

Two kinds of bitumen 10/20

Penetration grade 10/20 is a hard paving bitumen made to the European standard EN 13924. It is used for high-modulus asphalt, where a stiff binder is required.

Oxidized (blown) 10/20 is made by blowing air through hot bitumen, which raises its softening point and lowers its sensitivity to temperature. It is used in roofing, waterproofing and industrial compounds rather than paving. Its specification differs from the penetration grade, so tell us which type you need — the batch Certificate of Analysis states the values for the grade supplied.

Bitumen 10/20 vs 60/70 vs 80/100

The two numbers are the penetration range: how far a standard needle sinks into the bitumen at 25 °C, in tenths of a millimetre. A lower number means a harder bitumen.

Bitumen 10/20 (penetration 10–20) is the hardest grade, used for high-modulus asphalt. Bitumen 60/70 (60–70) is the standard paving grade for hot-mix asphalt base and wearing courses. Bitumen 80/100 (80–100) is softer and is also used to make bitumen emulsions, cutback bitumen and modified bitumen.

Frequently asked questions

+What is bitumen 10/20?

Bitumen 10/20 is a hard grade bitumen with a needle penetration of 10–20 tenths of a millimetre at 25 °C. The penetration grade meets EN 13924, has a softening point of 60–76 °C and is used for high-modulus asphalt.

+Is penetration grade 10/20 the same as oxidized 10/20?

No. Penetration grade 10/20 is a hard paving bitumen made to EN 13924. Oxidized (blown) 10/20 is air-blown at high temperature for a higher softening point and is used in roofing, waterproofing and industrial compounds. Specify the type when you order.

+What is bitumen 10/20 used for?

Penetration grade 10/20 is used for high-modulus asphalt mixtures. Oxidized 10/20 is used in roofing, waterproofing and industrial compounds.

+What temperature should bitumen 10/20 be heated to?

For penetration grade 10/20, mix and work at 165–175 °C, compact at 160–170 °C, and do not heat above 185 °C.

+Do you export bitumen 10/20?

Yes. Petroseal exports bitumen 10/20 from Karachi to Europe in steel drums or bulk, and supplies it all over Pakistan. Each batch ships with a COA and SDS.
